Compulsory education is until the age of 18, including three years of pre-primary education, five years of primary (age 6-11), three years of lower primary (age 11-14) and up to five years of upper secondary education.

If you are an apprentice in Italy, you have a work contract and you are obliged to go on training for two years for some hours (240 in total). Age limit is 29.  There are 3 types of apprenticeship contracts:
a contract to accompany youngsters who have left schools till the end of compulsory education (adolescents of 16 and 18 years without a professional qualification.
