The VET training system in Portugal
Compulsory education in Portugal is 9 years, stating at age 6 until age 15. It consists of basic education, which is divided into three cycles of three years each. Basically the first two 3cycles can be interpreted as being primary education and the third cycle as being lower secondary education. At the end of a basic education, pupils can opt for two direction; general education or vocational training.

Who is concerned?
In order to promote the mobility of young people with the purpose of improving employability, stimulate the development of new skills, and encourage the transition from education to the labour market, Portugal has developed a traineeships programme (INOV) which comprises measures for international traineeships: Inov Contact, Inov Art, and Inov Mundus.
